The Church of Now That's What I Call Music 23 is a musical comedy that worships at the altar of what all right-minded people agree to be the greatest album of all time. Join evangelical '90s pop-music obsessionist, The Right Reverend Eddie Ray Hammer (comedian Jarred Christmas), his long-suffering wife, his 30-strong choir and some special guests as he drags them back on the road with reworkings of his favourite tracks, to convince the British public that these songs are not to be derided, but held up as the pinnacle of pop's glory days. Part comedy show, part singalong and part religious experience, The Church Of Now will debut with a one-night preview at Bar FM, London on July 25th, before appearing on the BBC Comedy Presents stage as part of the Edinburgh Festival on August 22nd .Enter the Church of Now and feel free to don billowing gold trousers, stone-washed denim and over-sized baseball caps again. Praise be for new musical arrangements of Ebeneezer Goode, Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover and Sleeping Satellite. And be forced to agree with the Rev, that, yes, these are the indeed the finest tunes to have ever graced a cassette tape. Conceived, written and produced by creative agency Creature of London, Jarred Christmas and Laura Howe the hour-long show will continue to keep the spirit of these songs alive. Lord knows they need it. So leave your reverence on the porch, get up offa that pew, and sing and dance like you're 15 again.
