Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre has announced two world premieres for its autumn season and released details of the year-long Traverse 50 writers initiative which will begin in January to mark its 50th anniversary. The premieres will see Orla O’Loughlin direct her first productions for the theatre since taking over as artistic director in January. Applications for the Traverse 50 open tomorrow, Friday September 7.The Arthur Conan Doyle Society will be presented in association with Peepolykus in December.Speaking of the new productions, O’Loughlin said: “We did a reading of The Artist Man and the Mother Woman during Write Hear when it was very much a work in progress. The script has evolved in all kinds of weird and wonderful ways since then and I am thrilled that we have got Morna as the first show in the autumn.”The Conan Doyle Society sees O’Loughlin team up again with Peepolykus for whom she previously directed their version of the Hound of the Baskervilles for West Yorkshire Playhouse. The new commission is by PBJers Steven Canny and John Nicholson, who collaborated on the Hound of the Baskervilles.
