The BBC have announced that Armando Ianucci and Simon Blackwell are set to make a film adaptation of Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield. The film along with a slate of others will be produced as part of the BBC's celebrations of being part of the film industry for 25 years. The duo have a long standing history of writing successful film and TV together, having penned 'The Thick of it', 'In the Loop' and 'Veep'. Ianucci, who is somewhat of a Dickens aficionado, will stay very true to the novel. Coupled with Blackwell's intelligent wit and comic writing style this adaptation is set to be a world apart from those that have gone before it. BBC Films head Christine Langan tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I never think of Dickens about being just one thing and that’s very much the quality Armando shares. There’s a particular view of the world that is both humane and comic; it’s tragi-comic at times. I wouldn’t bank on this being too deadly serious, no way."
